BookPrep is a Web service that cleans archival scans of out-of-print books and makes high-quality copies available to readers everywhere. With BookPrep, readers and researchers can discover, read online for free, and order rare and out-of-print books that would otherwise be difficult or impossible to find.
Libraries can preserve priceless collections and provide broader access both online and through new distribution channels. Publishers can affordably make any title on their entire backlist available again to readers and book buyers.
The BookPrep service, developed by Hewlett-Packard, is designed to prepare scanned books for the print-on-demand market as well as for online consumption. BookPrep takes raw scanned images and cleans up artifacts that exist due to age or that are introduced during the scanning process.
The processed pages are then packaged into various formats for both print and online distribution. BookPrep has an expanding network of print service providers and agreements with several online distribution channels to sell the content.
