Spotify recently launched an invitation only beta phase for U.S. consumers. Spotify is a digital music service that provides on-demand access to more than fifteen million tracks, available via the Cloud. Launched in Sweden in 2008 as a legal alternative to music piracy, the company now claims more than ten million registered users. The company boasts more than 1.6 million paying subscribers across seven European countries and the U.S. marks the eighth territory. With a ratio of well over 15 percent paying subscribers to active free users, Spotify is growing fast. During the beta phase, Spotify offers three services, from free to paid subscriptions. The free service features occasional advertising and the paid services feature ad-free content and offline listening. Spotify’s U.S. launch is in partnership with such exclusive partners as Coca-Cola and Sprite, Chevrolet, Motorola, and Reebok.
